One of the joys of teaching is having rich conversations with students where I get to experience the world through their generational vantage point, in addition to just being able to chat with some of the smartest people around. During winter quarter 2016 at Northwestern, a graduate student, Rebekah Frumkin, stopped by my desk to ask me how what I thought about white people writing about black people. Well, that’s a huge topic, and I knew, instinctively, the news story that made this a hot conversation topic on this particular winter morning. As a result of that conversation and sharing our thoughts on power and voice, we were invited to chat with Bitch Media’s Sarah Mirk.
