Chicago Dailies Duke It Out In Battle for Young Readers

CHICAGO — The hottest new rivalry in journalism has just, like, rolled off the presses.

Not one, but two new daily newspapers — RedEye and Red Streak — premiered Wednesday in what is amounting to an old-fashioned newspaper street brawl between archrivals here, the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.

Both the new tabloids are trying to ensure a future readership for their parent papers by ensnaring an elusive crowd, 18-to-34-year-olds. As newspaper circulation dwindles nationwide, drawing in younger readers is seen as critical.
